 you did good

new_red_shoes.JPGyou helped me pick 'em!

my first thought after ripping open the zappos box was "wow, that's RED!" the color is much more, uh, impactful than any photo could accurately depict. but still... i love 'em!

they're sooo comfy. the heel is a great height to wear with pants or skirts. maybe even capris. we'll see.

but y'all did good! thanks for your help!

ray has been teasing me about how many pairs of shoes i have. honestly, i think i have about 30 pairs total. for a girl who grew up thinking that feet were inherently disgusting, i view shoe purchases as a kind of therapy. 30 pairs represents a successful journey towards a healthy relationship with my feet.

when i was young i was taught that showing my toes in public was inappropriate. that's what hussies did. i don't ever remember being allowed a pair of sandals. what's more, my wide feet required shopping in special stores with shoes that cost more than other people's shoes. coming from a frugal background, i always felt guilt about that.

so, now, a couple of decades later i own 30 pairs of shoes. i get monthly pedicures and rejoice in how beautiful my feet can be. and i have fun buying shoes that show them off.

besides, when i get a new pair of shoes i'm pretty quick to toss out some old ones. it's not like i'm turning into imelda marcos or anything.

Yay -- you picked the Frances!

And I'm glad you aren't turning into Imelda Marcos. Subcommandante Marcos might be kind of cool. But not Imelda.

Oddly: I cannot remember if I've ever been in Malacanang Palace (the Philippine presidential home). Part of my head thinks I did (on a small pseudo-private tour). But other parts of my head suspect that I'm just remembering photos I've seen in magazines. Another part of my head thinks (seriously) that the trouble is that I saw magazine photos (e.g., the romanticized painting of Ferdinand in reds and oranges) of things I saw in real life while visiting the place.

In other archipelago history, my Indonesian cousins helped take over parliament a decade or so ago.

Me? I just gotta have that funk.

Ok, I am going to buy a pair - I swear...of these: http://www.crocs.com/home.jsp. I jsut can't decide what color. Boys in Israel wear them and in bright colors too - pink, purple and teal even! I am thinking about a black pair (zzzZZZ, I know) and then a snazy pair too...like RED!

oh john... those crocs make me shudder. there's something about rubber shoes that just seem *not right*. i do admire your determination to get a bright color, though! colors make your feet happy!

ha! those are the shoes that mario batali is famous for wearing-- always in bright orange.

for a minute i thought you meant mario wears little red sandals like mine. then i realized you were talking about the crocs.

i like the idea of mario wearing little red sandals, actually.

I don't think rubber shoes are inherently wrong, but crocs are. just my opinion of course. I'm sure they are extremely comfortable and if I had to work on my feet all day, I might wear them too. Just not if anyone could see my shoes.

This makes me want to take pictures of all the people in Israel wearing Crocs and have a Croc flickr parade or something. ;-)

Most definitely spam - and from Israel, no less.

Why decorate rubber shoes with diamonds and gold?
