 twister? i hardly know her.

in yet another installment of "fix my body, please!" today i'm going to talk about my lower back.

over the last week or so, i've woken up with TERRIBLE back pain. i know exactly what causes it, yet i seem unable to fix it.

i sleep on my side, but not entirely. while i'm on my side, my top leg always falls forward so that my knee is touching the bed. the other leg stays in the standard "i'm lying on my side" position.

this posture twists my lower back immensely. i must stay like that all night long, because when i wake up i am in PAIN.

i've tried falling asleep on my stomach and on my back, but i always seem to wake up on my side.

this has to stop.

If you put a pillow between your knees, will it stay there?

They make some kind of contour pillow to help too - like the pillow betweens your knees idea.

i've been thinking about getting a body pillow to help keep myself in a comfortable position while sleeping on my side.

while you're at it, be sure that the pillow under your head is providing adequate support to keep your spine in as straight a line as possible.

I second the pillow between the knees - you can get these awesome body pillows which are really comfy. I used to sleep kind of half on my side, half on my front with my leg over a body pillow when I was up the duff, and I never got back ache.

I third the pillow between the knees idea - although with Ray as he is now, you'll never get up the duff :-)

I used to have a very long squishy body pillow that really seemed to help my back/general alignment when I used it at night. I got mine at wal-mart or somewhere, so it's not like you have to spend a lot.

"get up the duff"?

In the Philippines, those things are called something like "embrasador" (which sounds like the Spanish that it certainly came from).

Hey,
I have had monster back problems since I had the twins and while I think a pillow may be really helpful between the knees (this helps me) I picked up one of those memory foam mattress backs that supports your back.
I REALLY like it, it makes your bed warmer than it used to be which takes some adjusting to your bedclothes (use lighter blankets) but it makes a lot of difference to me.
