 bra talk

for the last few months i've been mulling over the idea of having a gaggle of girlfriends traipse out to the pennyrich bra patch with me for a group fitting. since i've now lost 62 pounds, my old, trusty jeunique that i got in october 2004 no longer fits. i need to go to pennyrich anyway; i might as well make a party of it. the gals i've mentioned this to have been enthusiastic supporters (snicker) of the idea.

today i finally called the shop and talked to sally, the owner. while she was appreciative of the potential increase in business, she said the store was just too small to accomodate a large group when she'd also have to attend to other customers. i wondered whether she'd be willing to do something after-hours for us. her health is bad, apparently, and she said she'd have to clear those issues up first before she would feel comfortable about planning something special like that.

she did mention, however, that she's been thinking about having her staff do a series of "seminars"... a crash-course, if you will, in bra technology. that way the customers would have a certain basic level of knowledge which would help speed up the sales process. she thought maybe we could arrange a private seminar for my group once they get up (snicker) & running (ew).

but when i told her that i was going to need to come in anyway and get re-fit for another jeunique, regardless of whether this group event ever occurred, i could hear her interest pique. i think she's in love with the jeunique bra and wants to sell as many as possible. not to get rich, mind you (she told me that she makes very little profit on the jeunique), but just to help more women discover this amazing bra.

sally took my name & phone number, said she'd mull over the possibilities, and would call me if she had any amazing brainstorms.

so stay tuned, ladies.

Darn, I'm thinking this is one of those fun events I really can't join long-distance. Unless you have a concurrent party on the West Coast--then I'm SO THERE.

interesting... I really like this bra from an engineering standpoint. But from a fashion standpoint, I'm worried it would tend towards the bullet boob shape? Does it? I shy away from pointy-style bras after that eye poking incident.

But it does sound really cool. I had my own bra epiphany back in 1998 when I discovered British bras- they have so many more sizes and the bras they make are both structural and pretty (for ex. http://www.bravissimo.com/). I never had neck and back pain after that. Usually in the US you have to choose one or the other, and my size doesn't even exist here unless you go into really out-of-the-way brands that seem to cater mainly to an older crowd (lots of fake whalebone and itchy materials).

you know you're going to get another hundred random comments from people wanting to buy bras, after this post.

(why don't people actually read the entries and realize you aren't a bra dealer? it's fascinating)

marie-
yeah, the only thing i didn't like about the jeunique was the fact it gave me pointy boobs. it's hard to complain too much about it, though, because it was the only bra i've ever (EVER) worn that put my boobs up where they're supposed to be. clothes fit better. i had a well-defined waist. (i'm serious.) the bra was magical. i'm now a firm believer that no underwire bra can do the same thing as the jeunique does. i'll put up with pointy boobs if i have to.

Lmao at the "magical" jeunique bra. I am going to have to get my wife one. What happens if you rub the levitating, pointy, orbs?

that's cool. I have nothing against pointiness, I guess I just don't have the confidence to sport them myself. Which is too bad, since there are some outfits that simply demand that effect.

That said, I am so intrigued by your love of this bra (and I have an obsession with bras in general) that I am considering going to try one out and see what this is all about... but I would hate to drive 30 miles and bother the lady for a fitting and then decide to not buy one after trying it.

oh, believe me... if you're as busty as i am and you try a jeunique you WILL want one. no two ways about it.

be sure to bring $60, though. they're not cheap.

you know what, I came here to see if i could search your blog for that bra -- I couldn't remember the name of it -- and lo, and behold, it's like you just knew I was coming! Does it creep you out that every so often I think about your bra? I don't mean it in a creepy way, honestly!

And I would definitely be interested in a Bra "Support" Group! I will have to check your blog more often for this critical information!

For those of you out there looking for the Pennyrich bras - I just found out they are no longer being manufactured. SOOOOOOO - if you find a place that has them - and you want them - you better get them now! The company quit making them around the middle of May. When the inventory is gone - so is the Pennyrich Bra :-(((
