 ibook withdrawl

my ibook is at the apple store for repair.

the monitor has been flickering occasionally, sometimes going totally black. after investigating the problem on the apple message boards it became clear what the issue was (a short in the backlight display cable), and that i should get it fixed before my warranty is up in a few weeks.

i bought the ibook last june and since then i think i have only gone without it for one three-day stretch over my thanksgiving vacation at the beach (where there wasn't internet access). i love my ibook SO MUCH... maybe more than my cats.

no. forget i said that.

but my computer does play a crucial part in my life. i rely on it every day at work to perform OS X tasks that my office desktop (OS 9 - ugh) cannot accomplish. i take it with me on trips out of town... we've endured dozens of TSA checkpoints together, me removing my shoes and it being removed from its comfy case. my ibook and i are One. we're attached at the fingertips.

leaving it at the genius bar yesterday was SO hard. i had separation anxiety all night. i didn't know what to do with myself... i couldn't check email from home! egad! i actually went to bed before midnight! and i read! jezus... what have i become?!?!

and today, here at work, i'm having to check my email with (gasp!) webmail! i don't have access to my address book, either. (but don't worry... i did a back-up before i took the laptop in for repair; i'm no dummy. it's just that i backed the machine up to a firewire drive, and my computer here at work doesn't have firewire. d'oh.)

i'm going through severe withdrawl today. i miss my ibook. it could be back as early as tomorrow (or as late as next monday or tuesday)... i wish i knew, so i could count the hours.

are you me? the same exact thing happened to me not too long ago. I wanted to cry like a baby when I left my precious computer at the store! It came back fast, though.

that black screen was painful to see - I panicked and tried to put a lamp behind the screen to light it!

and you pick on me for having multiple computers :)

You've just given me an idea. One night a week, after work, I don't turn on or look at a computer all night. I wonder what I'll get done on those nights?

By coincidence, I went to the Apple store today just so I could see the Genius Bar. I was hoping they'd be serving smart drinks (ba dum pump, chee!).

The store's design weirds me out. So does the whole mall, but I had to go there for a Things Remembered thing.

Rossi, put your earplugs in, too ;-)

i don't find the apple store a very comforting place, either... though conceptually i like the design.

zach, one of the geniuses (genii?), called to tell me the part he'd need to fix the ibook wouldn't be here for a day or two... so i went back to the apple store today to pick up my compter until he had the part in-hand.

i am now caressing it.
