 verbal diarrhea

well, thanks to rick! i'm feeling a bit too loopy to drive myself home right now. the tacos were good, but i guess they weren't that filling. one glass of wine has me slightly schnockered. d'oh.

so i'm sitting here in the XDU lounge, desperately needing to pee but refusing to do so. that bathroom is NASTY. word.

anyway, i have a question for you: why are you obsessed with shoes? if you aren't obsessed with shoes, why aren't you?? it seems to me that shoes are the perfect accessory... i love wearing bright red shoes with orange tops, yellow shoes with blue. i think they're a great showpiece! and the more the merrier!!

i was happy to hear rick! say the same thing tonight. he likes shoes, too. not as much as me, i don't think. but quite a lot for a boy. yay. i like rick! he gives me wine.

also, i have to say that my life has been REALLY stressful lately. pledge drive starts tomorrow, and the days leading up to it are almost as terrible as the event itself. i'm not sleeping well. i'm antsy and my shoulders are tense.

but divaville makes me happy. from the moment i enter the station (carefully avoiding the bathroom), and throughout the show, i can feel my tension melting away. is that too cliche?? i had lots and lots of nice phone calls and requests tonight; i feel loved.

and the tiniest bit tipsy. but my bladder is telling me to get in the car and go home. so i will.

re the shoes -- you'd better do my meme, er Tash's meme.

re the wine, I hope someone else is driving.

oh, i wasn't even buzzed. just happy and relaxed. i drove myself home no problem... then plopped myself down on my clean toilet.

i don't know if i'll have time to do the shoe meme, unfortuantely... work is hard right now. very little free time. (boo!)

Tonight's late-night Seinfeld episode: the one in which nearly all of his shoes get lost. Kramer's fault, not George's.

By the way, I recall from last year that pledge drive is a major stressor -- but I can't recall *why*. Just curious...

And lastly, I enjoyed catching the last bit of Divaville this evening -- particularly the Patti Page. Re: the Lena Horne, did you go to the ~1993 ADF performance of Hubbard Street doing Twyla Tharp's "Nine Sinatra Songs"? Ki, yi, yi for the piece with "One for my baby". I saw them perform the work again in Chicago, but they had a different female dancer for that piece and it just wasn't the same.

phil:
thanks for the seinfeld story, but you didn't answer the question... how do *you* feel about shoes? :-)

the pledge drive is stressful because, unlike other stations, ALL of our budget comes from our listeners. we don't rely on tax dollars, CPB money, or commercial income should we fall short during the drive. suffice to say, none of us have had raises in 3 years. this is essentially life or death for the station... success depends on my (our) performance.

i don't think i saw that hubbard street performance... i have to admit that they're not my favorite (nor is twyla tharp, sadly), so i probably skipped it without realizing the divaville impact. :-)

I'm not the craziest about shoes. I tend to wear the same pair everyday for about a month, since they are probably beside my bed when I wake up. I think I'm probably not wild about shoes for several reasons: 1. expense (the biggest reason) 2. My dog has a habit of chewing the heels off my newest acquisition when he's mad 3. laziness

but i'm not that great with accessories in general. same thing with jewelry. If I have a necklace on, I'll wear it for a month, regardless of the outfit.

I was once a great shoe collector. And then the 80s ended.
Would it horrify you to know that I only own three pair of shoes? Red sandals, that go with little to nothing (given to me by a friend, and I wear them like every day), Black loafers for dressier days (purchased at PAYLESS when I went back to work from maternity leave), and white K Swiss sneakers.
I think my lack of shoe vanity goes along with my lack of hair vanity. I can't commit to either hair or shoes, so I just let both go.......

I think Christa's lucky the net.police didn't charge her with PWI: Posting While Impaired. I mean, we've all done it, right? Christa was just, well, let's say unwise enough to admit it.

BTW, I'm not obsessed with shoes for the same reason I'm not obsessed with refrigerator magnets.

shoes and magnets are both strictly utilitarian for you, or what??

interesting. i have a nice array of silly refrigerator magnets. i wonder if people who love shoes also love silly magnets.

Actually, I got two refrigerator magnets in the mail today. How's that for Jungian synchronicity? I'll give you one next time I see you. It's for an attorney's office. :(

Christa -- thanks for the 'splain about radio stress. It makes much more sense, now.

Regarding shoes -- I do enjoy shoes, but I'm not obsessed with them because I generally don't put too much energy into thinking about wardrobe stuff. This isn't because I don't want to look nice -- believe me, I *do* want to look nice. But I don't have a particular talent for choosing clothes, and I'm also unwilling to spend much money on clothing, so the approach that gives me the greatest ease is to be pretty slack and un-ambitious about what I wear.

Is it an unnecessary risk to mention that I actually buy shoes a thrift stores?

By the way, I enjoyed the zappo's exercise. Just looking at the photos, I did find myself with many opinions, including an instant "no" to the briza's. How fun it was to see that you had zapped them, too!
