pictures i've wanted to take this week, but haven't, for one reason or another:

1) the weird white wrapping that's now encasing the "heart of durham" motel.

2) the destruction of beautiful old trees on highway 98, just inside wake forest town limits (at the behest of the local power company, of course).

3) me, digging verrrry deeply into the back of the kroger freezer case, desperately searching for a pint of ben & jerry's "oatmeal cookie chunk" ice cream that's just got to be back there...

4) mimo (one of my cats), stretching on his side on the rug in such a way that it looked like he was trying to fly.

i have a digital camera, of course... if i ever carried it with me i could have gotten a lot of great photos this week.

i'm actually thinking of investing in a PDA that plays music, takes photos and organizes my life... all at the same time.

Does such a PDA exist? I'm enchanted by the thought of consolidation. Though my dream consolidation is for someone to come up with a single pill (or perhaps lotion) that contains vitamins, birth control, sunscreen, bug repellant and - what the heck - a healthy glow.

since taking that photography class I've started carrying my camera with me everywhere. I look like a dork using a camera bag instead of a purse, but I've gotten some nice shots that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I'm really picturing the heart of durham motel looking like a Christo exhibit. Even if it doesn't, in my mind it will. Although I think Christo prefers pink wrapping, not white.

Pinky, for this blog don't you mean you mean Xto?

Do folks remember when the 3-storey First Union building downtown was wrapped in all the orange construction fencing? To me, the color and shape were all much better balanced with the construction fencing than without.

I saw the Washington Monument when it was all scaffolded, and I thought it looked neat. Like a better version of the Louvre pyramid.

Right now, as you drive north on I-95, that weird...um...what might one call it...not quite an obelisk, yet not exactly a monument...well, that damn tall skinny thing that stands outside Phillip-Morris in Richmond. You know what I mean. Well, that thing is all surrounded by scaffolding. I can't for the life of me think what they might be doing with it. But I almost cried that I didn't have a camera last weekend when I drove by. But, I guess, at 70 miles an hour, I would have been crying if I HAD taken a picture of it. That's a pretty dicey part of I-95. That is all. As you were.

I call that thing "the square cigarette."

i saw the philip morris cigarette tonight... it looked cool with the scaffolding. but even cooler was the ramada hotel right across the street... their sign on one side said "ramaad" and on the other side said "armada".

i don't know how that could have happened... it was crazy and beautiful.
